Bridport is
a vibrant and colourful town, set amongst the West Dorset hills. It is a most
welcoming town and a wonderful place for browsing in shops selling
local produce. There is a
twice-weekly street market and monthly farmers market.
The curiously named ‘Buckydoo Square’ is the focal point of the
town and provides a pleasant spot to sit and watch the world go by.

One
mile south of Bridport is West Bay, a busy harbour village with
characteristic kiosks, fishing boats, pubs and restaurants all nestled between
the spectacular East and West Cliffs. It is host to an annual Trawler
Theme Parade where trawlers and their crew are decorated before setting out
for a short trip along the coast.

Bridport was once renowned as the
centre of the country’s rope and net-making industry; flax and hemp were
grown on many of the local farms. Find out, at the Museum,
what it means to be “stabbed with a Bridport Dagger”.
The Arts Centre has a full programme of activities and
exhibitions. For lots more local information visit
